ACMC Education Service
Black History Month 2007
In October 2007 to celebrate Black History Month, ACMCs Education Department partnered the London based organisation Nostalgie Ya Mboka and LB Camden in producing two unique radio programmes broadcast Londonwide on Resonance104.4FM and worldwide on www.resonancefm.com.

The shows look at class and social identity as portrayed through early recordings of popular music made in the (then) Belgian Congo AND a second show which focused upon the first generation of Congolese female singers in modern music.

Two ten minute MP3 (6 MB each) tasters of each show are available via the links below:

Education Policy

It is the policy of the Music Circuit to generate an awareness of the music and culture of people from Africa and the Caribbean, to as wide an audience as possible. Integral to this is the need to challenge misconceptions of African and Caribbean culture, in order to appropriately attribute the contribution made by African and Caribbean people, particularly musical influences. In London, the Music Circuit has initiated a schools programme and young people’s activities in the build up to the Notting Hill Carnival.

How We Work

The Music Circuit education programme provides invaluable input both within the National Curriculum and through community-based education projects. Our programme contains academic and practical elements - hands-on tuition via workshops, residencies and master-classes and specially designed work packs and worksheets that compliment them. Our education programme does not just encourage our own people to celebrate and value their culture; it reaches out to non-African and Caribbean people and it allows them to enjoy and celebrate their own. Our programme works on national as well as local levels; projects are tailored to suit each client organisation, in this way, we aim to reach a diverse cross section of the populace.
